DUMKA: A day after an FIR was lodged in the alleged gangrape of a minor in front of her mother in Deoghar on Sunday night, four out of the six accused in the case have been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
The mother was also allegedly assaulted by the criminals when she tried to resist the crime, police said.
The arrested were identified as Majhar Sheikh (32), Farmuddin Sheikh (32), Tajim Sheikh (30), and Sajid Sheikh.
The survivor alleged that the rape was committed by five persons, while the sixth one was their accomplice.
Confirming the arrests, Deoghar superintendent of police Subhash Chandra Jaat said, “The case is being investigated by an SIT headed by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Madhupur. I also visited the place of incident,” adding, “Attempts are on to nab the remaining two accused, who are currently on the run.”
Police sources, however, said that they are yet to ascertain if the minor was raped or not as the report of her medical examination is awaited.
The Deoghar superintendent of police said, “The probe so far has confirmed that the minor and her mother were thrashed by the miscreants. We are probing the other aspects too.”
