BYD Atto 3 electric SUV bookings open: All about MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona’s Chinese rival indiabusinessport.com


After the initial success of its e6 electric MPV among fleet customers, Chinese EV giant BYD Auto, has now launched its mass market Atto 3 electric SUV in India. The Atto 3 will be competing against other electric SUVs in the domestic market, such as the Hyundai Kona and the MG ZS EV. So let’s see how well appointed the Atto 3 is, to compete in the popular compact electric SUV segment.
Design:
The BYD Atto 3 has a really modern design with sharp lines and flowing creases. On the front, it gets a pair of LED headlamps with a brushed silver finish plaque in the middle. The front bumper features a piano black plastic panel that mimics the shape of air dams that we are used to seeing in ICE vehicles. There is also a minimal scuff plate at the lower end of the bumper.

On the side profile, the Atto 3 gets 18-inch alloy wheels that feature a typical EV-centric design to minimise drag. The electric SUV has a wind resistance of 0.29 CD. It has a big glass area which is tied-up with a brushed silver plaque on the D-pillar. At the rear, the clean and modern design continues and is highlighted by a pair of split tail lamps that have a co-joining strip of light running across the width of the car. The boot also features the company emblem which says ‘Build Your Dreams’.
Interiors:
The interiors of the Atto 3 are really futuristic with a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen that sits in the middle of the dashboard. It also features a flat bottom steering wheel with a large BYD insignia in the centre. The door tweeters of the 8-speaker audio system have a protruding design, finished in a brushed silver housing. Overall the interiors feature a 4-tone scheme consisting of black, white and dark blue elements with red stitching and accents.

The driver information is served up on a floating-style digital screen behind the steering, the Atto 3 also gets wireless charging and 360-degree cameras on board.
Battery and charging:
The BYD Atto 3 features a 60.48 kWh Blade battery that can charge from 0-80 percent in just 50 minutes using an 80 kW DC fast charger. Charging the Atto 3 using a home AC charger will take up to 10 hours. It also gets VTOL mobile power station function that allows the Atto 3’s battery pack to be used as a power bank to support devices and appliances of up to 3.3 kWh.
Performance and range:
The electric SUV features a single PMS motor delivering 150 kW (201 hp) of power and 310 Nm of torque, it can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 7.3 seconds. The Atto 3 has an ARAI-certified range of 521 km on a full charge, it also features regenerative braking.
Features:
The BYD Atto 3 is certainly a feature-rich car. It has a panoramic sunroof, electronically powered tailgate, electrically powered and heated ORVMs, powered front seats, adaptive LED headlamps, multi-colour ambient lighting, Keyless entry and go with NFC card function and a lot more. It even gets a PM 2.5 filter and an air purifier for a healthy commute in city environments.

Level 2 ADAS features:
Among standard safety features such as 7 airbags, TMPS, ABS with EBD and Hill Control, the BYD Atto 3 also features 6 radars placed around the vehicle that offer Level 2 ADAS capabilities. Advanced safety systems such as automatic emergency braking, front and rear collision warning, blind spot detection and lane keep assist will be onboard the electric SUV.
Price:
While BYD did not announce the prices of the Atto 3 electric SUV at the launch event, it will do so in December with deliveries beginning in January 2023. The bookings for the SUV are open at Rs 50,000, however, cancellation of a booking will attract a penalty of Rs 25,000. The Atto 3 electric SUV is expected to be priced at around Rs 25 lakh.
