Petrol and diesel prices remained stagnant on Thursday, October 13, 2022 for over four months now. Fuel prices in India have held steady since Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a cut in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre on May 21. Later, the Maharashtra government announced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per litre, respectively.
On August 24, the Meghalaya government revised the petrol and diesel rates. Petrol price in Shillong now stands at Rs 96.83 per litre, while diese is priced at Rs 84.72 per litre. Petrol price in Delhi is Rs 96.72 per litre, while diesel is retailing at Rs 89.62 per litre. Petrol and diesel in Mumbai are priced at Rs 106.31 and Rs 94.27 per litre respectively.

Retail petrol and diesel prices differ from state to state because of local taxes like VAT or freight charges.
