End of a rivalry that defined Uttar Pradesh politics for decades | Lucknow News. indiabusinessport.com

LUCKNOW: BSP president Mayawati expressed grief on the demise of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday and extended her condolences to the bereaved family.
Mayawati and Yadav were bitter political rivals. The death of Mulayam may also mark the end of one of the most talked about political rivalries in the political history of the country. It was also probably one of the most long-lived rivalries, till the BSP and SP decided to form an alliance with the RLD for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the two leaders shared the stage in Mainpuri during a joint rally.
Besides, the two leaders exuded warmth for each other and heaped praises on each other for working for the backwards and deprived. The acrimony between MSY and Mayawati was the fallout of the infamous ‘guest house’ incident that took place in Lucknow’s VIP Meerabai guesthouse on June 2, 1995 where Mayawati and her party MLAs were holding a meeting when SP men had laid siege to the guesthouse.
Mayawati and others had to lock themselves in to be safe. She was rescued by the BJP leaders and a case was registered against Mulayam at a police station in Lucknow.
