AHMEDABAD: While on a routine inspection of an under-construction water treatment plant facility at Jaspur last week, the chairman of the water and sewerage committee, Jatin Patel, suspected that the construction material used was of substandard quality.
Patel immediately called for a vigilance team at the spot to take samples of the construction material and sought a full-fledged enquiry. The capacity enhancement of the Jaspur water treatment plant is critical at this juncture as the existing 400 MLD water treatment plant (WTP) will now be able to process an additional 200 million litres per day (MLD).
This water treatment plant will serve Bopal, Ghuma, Shilaj, the newly acquired villages under AUDA, Jagatpur, Gota, Science City, Bhadaj and areas between SG Highway and SP Ring Road.
A separate 2,500mm pipeline is also being laid between Vaishno Devi Circle and SG Highway to serve these areas. Patel told reporters, “The additional water treatment facility at Jaspur is worth Rs 100 crore.
Last week, during my visit to the site, I found that the RCC structure had fewer iron rods (rebars) and suspected that the structure was of poor quality. I have called for a detailed report on the quality of the material used. The construction site has been sealed for now.”
