UJJAIN: PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the breathtakingly transformed Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling Temple in Ujjain on Tuesday, and said the renovation of the temple reflects the timelessness of Sanatani spirit and spiritual energy that had sustained India through the period of slavery and colonisation.
Referring to the destruction of the revered temple by Turkish Sultan Iltutmish, the PM said that the vandalism failed to destroy the indestructible spirit Mahakaal enjoys because of being one of the 12 Jyotirlings.
“History has been witness to the efforts, change of circumstances, changes of regimes leading to India’s exploitation and its enslavement. Invaders like Iltutmish tried to destroy the energy of Ujjain. But as our sages said, even death cannot harm those who are sheltered by Lord Shiva. And that is how these proven sources of spiritual energy helped India’s re-emergence. We have again a statement of our indestructibility to the entire world,” said Modi in an emotion-laden speech, which was cheered by a 40,000-strong crowd.
“Where there is innovation, there is also renovation. Today, India is renovating what we lost in the times of slavery, restoring its glory. And the whole world, all of humanity will benefit from it. With the blessings of Mahakal, India’s grandeur will give rise to new possibilities for the development of the whole world. The divinity of India will pave the way for peace in the world,” Modi said.
“…This magnificence of Mahakaal Lok will give the vision of supernatural divinity to generations to come, beyond the limits of time, and energise the cultural and spiritual consciousness of India,” Modi said at a glittering event attended by thousands of devotees, sadhus, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the governors of MP, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, and Union and state ministers. Chouhan recalled how Modi sparked the idea for the renovation in 2016.
The Rudrasagar Lake, described in the Skanda Purana, which had turned into a stench-filled pond over ages, now sparkles with water from the holy river Kshipra. Exquisitely carved statues like the 900m Mahakaal Lok corridor. Order and beauty have replaced chaos and clutter.
PM Modi said “New India” is moving forward with its ancient values while reviving the tradition of science and research along with faith.
