PATNA: Former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad (74), who is set to remain RJD’s national president for the 12th consecutive term at the party’s national council meet in New Delhi on Monday, said his alliance with Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) would continue for many years and the grand alliance government in Bihar would work for betterment of the poor people.
The RJD chief, while addressing the RJD national executive body meeting on Sunday, also asked the party leaders not to issue any such statement which can put ‘adverse impact on the grand alliance government’ in Bihar.
Significantly, RJD’s Bihar statepresident Jagadanand Singh skipped the meeting, fuelling talks of new leadership in the state RJD. Jagadanand’s son Sudhakar Singh, however, attended the meeting but did not answer queries as to why his father had stayed away.
The RJD state chief is said to be upset with the party ever since Sudhakar was forced to resign from the Nitish Kumar government. When queried about Jagadanand’s absence, RJD Rajya Sabha member Manoj Jha said his absence on Sunday cannot undermine the fact of his constant presence over the years.
RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan told TOI over phone from Delhi, “Lalu’s recent election as the RJD boss for the next three-year (2022-25) will be ratified by the party’s national council meeting on Monday. He would be formally given the certificate of election by the party’s national returning officer on Monday.”Lalu is RJD’s national president ever since its formation in July 1997 when he caused a split in the then Janta Dal to launch a new political outfit.Meanwhile, the RJD’s national executive committee passed a series of political resolutions to be approved by the national council.
