NEW DELHI: The mass layoffs at Twitter following the takeover by Elon Musk spilled over to India with full force as a large number of employees were terminated on Friday without any notice, in a move that was widely expected but still came as a rude shock for the teams that ironically ended up venting out their frustration and anger through the micro-blogging platform itself.
The departments that saw terminations included corporate and marketing communications, partnerships and policy, and some even in product and engineering.
The India operations, while being a significant contributor to Twitter’s global subscriber base, have never really been a strong revenue churner for the company. The headcount in India is also believed to be in the “very low hundreds”, with offices in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
A questionnaire sent to the global press team at Twitter went unanswered.
